Wink
(1-control signal) A telephone line signal that is a single supervisory pulse. When caused by the passive end of a subscriber loop, it is usually transmitted as an off-hook signal followed by an on-hook signal where the off-hook signal is of a very short specified duration compared to the on-hook signal. When caused by the powered end of a subscriber loop, it is usually transmitted as a short removal of central office battery voltage from the loop wires. When used with robbed bit or associated bit signaling on a digital multiplexed channel, the robbed bit or associated bit changes binary value for a short time interval. The duration of any form of a wink signal is typically 200 milliseconds. (2-indicator light) A rapid flashing cadence of an indicator light, typically used to indicate which line is ringing with an incoming call on a multi-line telephone set. Winking cadence is typically 5 winks per second, faster than flashing cadence. SS7 Books
